Bill Wallis, our friend and leader, passed away Saturday, November 5th. We will miss him greatly.

Special Friends Website Update - February 14, 2017

2017 SOTX Calendar: Coaches, Parents, Guardians and Volunteers. Check out the 2017 SOTX Calendar for key competition, training, and deadline dates.

Basketball Classifications: Classifications are Saturday February 18. Classifications start at 9:00 a.m. and will complete by 1:00 p.m.

Athletics/Track: Practices will begin Saturday, February 25 at 10:00 am. Practices will be Saturdays 10-11:30am and Wednesdays 5:30-7:00pm at the Trinity High School track. Available events include track (both running and walking), softball throw, javelin throw, and shotput. If you havenít already, please let Gayla know as soon as possible if your athlete is planning to participate. Gayla can be reached at gayla1161@aol.com or (817) 975-4555.

Basketball: Basketball practice starts on Saturday January 7th, classifications are on February 18th, and competition is on March 4th. If you are a returning player please return to the practice that you previously participated in. If you are a new player, please email Gayla Altman or call/text 817-975-4555.

Each player should arrive to practice 15 minutes early so they can get their coats / sweats off, use the restroom and just be generally prepared to start practice on time. Each athlete should come to practice in the proper attire for a sporting event (no jeans). Then ONLY drink allowed in the gym is water. All athletes should be picked up from practice on time. Athletes should not start blowing up coaches phones about practices. All communications should be sent via email to the coach until advised otherwise.

Practice times:
Saturday 8:45-10:15 and 10:30-12:00
Wednesday 6:00-7:30 and 7:45-9:15
2017 Basketball Schedule

We have been invited to participate in a basketball tournament at Keller ISD. Please contact Coach Laurie (first practice) or Steve Meek (second practice) by January 18, if your athlete will be able to play. Below is the informatin that we have.

Opening Ceremonies at 8:15 a.m. Games begin at 9:00 a.m. Concession stand will be available for snacks, drinks, and lunch.

Deadline for entry is Wednesday, January 18th. Contact Coach Laurie (first practice) or Steve Meek (second practice).
Softball: Softball batting practice will begin on June 4th and will be every Saturday throughout June, from 10-11:30 a.m. at Harwood Jr High. Regular season will begin on July 27th on Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m.

Football: Football starts on July 31st, on Saturdays from 8-10 a.m.

Bingo: The Knights of Columbus host Bingo at the Knights of Columbus Hall (1319 Brown Trail, Bedford) on the third Thursday of every month starting in September from 6:30 to 8:00.

Please check your athleteís Application/Medical Release expiration date. Athletes with expired medicals will not be allowed to practice until we receive a completed medical.

Bingo: The Knights of Columbus will again host Bingo at the Knights of Columbus Hall (1319 Brown Trail, Bedford) on the third Thursday of every month starting in August from 6:30 to 8:00.

Medical Forms - Important!: SOTX requires that every athlete have a valid Medical Release form prior to beginning participation or practice in any Special Olympics sport activity. Please check the Medical Form expiration for your athlete. Please donít ask our coaches to violate this rule. If your athlete is nearing expiration, please download the Athlete Medical form here. A Physicianís signature is required, as well as a valid parent/guardian or athlete signature.

Special Friends is an informal organization of people with intellectual disabilities who enjoy having fun!  The people in Special Friends participate in organizations such as Special Olympics, Knights of Columbus Bingo, and other activities.
